You may have noticed photos of number of athletes, including one of the most decorated Olympian of all time- Michael Phelps with big, dark, purplish red circles on their backs and shoulders surface on the internet during the Olympic games. These perfectly round shapes are the result of one of the TCM practices known as “cupping”.
According to the concept of TCM, the idea of it is to help regulate the flow of energy – known as qi around the body and find the balance between Yin and Yang. Known to be one of the world’s oldest forms of medicine, TCM has been practiced for over 2500 years. Its rich essence of Chinese history, philosophy and medical knowledge has gained worldwide interest in using natural products, even more so recognized as a viable form of alternative medicine in some parts of the world.
Yin and Yang refers to two opposing yet interdependent forces.
Yin (陰): dark, night, cold, feminine, negative
The perspective of TCM believes that the balance of yin and yang is what makes you feel healthy and well; even if one force dominates the other, pain and illness may arise. The foundation of a healthy individual not only has a healthy mind and body, it also includes one’s emotions, thoughts and psychological state. For these reasons, TCM does not focus on treating the illness alone, but rather the person with the illness.
You recently visited the TCM practitioner and were prescribed with modern medicine-like capsules, pills or granules. You thought to yourself, where does scientific Chinese medicine lie between traditional Chinese herbs or herbal decoctions in terms of its efficacy?
Scientific Chinese medicine is a fusion of modern science technologies used to verify the medicinal and therapeutic values of Chinese herbal compounds. Firstly, the raw materials undergo separation, concentration, granulation followed by fluidized bed drying and spray drying before turning into granules, tablets, and capsules. Not only that this process can help to retain the active components, it also helps to ensure the quality of the product by preventing the growth of insects or mold.
The biggest difference between scientific Chinese medicine and TCM is the convenience of consumption. While scientific Chinese medicine can be consumed directly based on practitioner’s recommended dose, TCM needs to be boiled with water, this however has some limitations as some components such as animal bones, minerals, and shellfish are hard and thick, thereby making the extraction of active ingredients difficult. Moreover, liquid extraction of TCM is time-consuming and labor-intensive.
The management of the herbal medicine from upper stream to lower stream is as such:Sun Ten continues to emphasize on safety, efficacy and consistency. From choosing the right bottles to developing high-quality natural products backed by science, Sun Ten ensures the quality and safety of raw materials and end products by conducting various tests and chemical fingerprints.

Moreover, her mood and energy is stable. Jen’s monthly visit ‘Aunt flo’ has never affected her work performance.
On the other hand, Belle’s a 28 year-old accountant and her menstruation experience is quite the opposite. Not only does her menstrual cycle come irregularly, she also experiences belly bloating, excessive bleeding and blood clots. Worse still, her menstruation also involves painful cramps which may affect her concentration at work.
Why do Jen and Belle have drastically different menstrual cycles? Is it merely fate that Jen has better luck on problem-free menstruation?
It always goes back to the same theory. The liver stores blood, regulates qi, the vital energy and controls smooth blood flow which is strongly influenced even during the monthly cycle. You are seeing exceptionally high number of strands of hair on your hair brush, on the pillowcase, or in the shower drain, you got worried. It is not uncommon to encounter intermittent stress and anxiety in life, especially when one has pending workloads, commitment in relationships and expenses. As a result, the body react to it and led to problems like brittle nails, breakouts and hair loss.
Not only that stress and anxiety play a role in hair loss, it could also be caused by other conditions like:
When one is experiencing a large amount of physical or emotional stress, it will push the hair follicles into resting phase so that they won’t produce new hair strands. Eventually, what you will see is hair falling out easily even if you are just touching, brushing or washing your hair. This condition is known as telogen effluvium. It is also attributed to poor diet and change in hormone levels.
This is a psychological condition known as trichotillomania. It causes people to have the compulsive decision to pull their hair from scalp, face and other parts of the body when they are feeling stressed or tensed.
Baldness, also known as alopecia areata, is an autoimmune condition where your body’s immune system will attack the hair follicles and cause the hair to fall out. In some cases, Alopecia areata can cause hair thinning while some may develop bald spots. While healthcare professionals are not exactly sure what causes alopecia areata, they think that genetics might play a role.
In short, stress is evitable if it is properly managed, make sure to get sufficient amount of sleep and spend some time doing leisure activities. At the same time, eating a balanced diet with vitamins and minerals is also essential to keeping the hair scalp healthy.
HomeBrown’s 100% black sesame powder uses the whole black sesame roasted at lower temperature to preserve its nutrients. It is 100% preservative free, no added sugar, no artificial flavouring, just a natural flavour on its own. It is rich in calcium, dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals.
